Pragmatic Ajax

Pragmatic Ajax

My copy of Pragmatic Ajax arrived today. In spite of having the worst cover design in the history of tech books, I have faith that it’s a quality title. At first glance, it seems to be structured a lot like the Agile Web Development with Rails book, and has sections on Dojo and Prototype. The other ajaxy title I bought recently was Ajax in Action. I haven’t delved too far into it yet, but it’s got more of a traditional tech book feel, and an equally obscure medieval-themed cover.

The cover was an act of desperation; we couldn’t think of anything techy, so we went with something that evoked ancient Greece, from whence the mythos of the hero Ajax came. You should have heard some of the alternate titles for the book….

Phil - I’m curious to see which of the two you find more advanced/helpful!

@Justin,

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I’m a decent way into the book now and I’m enjoying it.

@Jon,

I’ll probably post reviews of each when I get through them.

For what it’s worth, I hated the cover design too, but no one else in the decision-making process seemed to despise it with any of the vigor that I did. Absent some other concept, I yielded and let it ship with the sword. Ugh.

Guys, don’t worry about the cover, I don’t notice it anymore. The book itself is awesome and I’m sure you can push for the next edition to feature a pleasing but neutral mondrian design or something ;)
