7 Reasons Why Web Apps Fail. This is a great list; I found #6 especially interesting. Any time you echo back some kind of popularity metrics to your users, you create an amplification effect. But I can see Joshua’s point: explicitly revealing the voting numbers as Digg does increases its exposure to manipulation by groups of users and also subconsciously validates or invalidates links independant of their actual quality or interest to potential diggers. via Bookmarks.
