MochiKit – A lightweight Javascript library
MochiKit is a highly documented and well tested, suite of JavaScript libraries that will help you get shit done, fast. We took all the good ideas we could find from our Python, Objective-C, etc. experience and adapted it to the crazy world of JavaScript.

Matt Croydon: Django Model Syntax Change
Adrian has committed the Django model syntax changes. Current models will have to be rewritten — once — but the new syntax looks a lot cleaner and I think it will reduce the learning curve for newcomers to the platform. Be sure to check out the full documentation as well as a brief screencast highlighting the changes. I will do my best to update my CRUD Generic Views tutorial as soon as possible to reflect the syntax change. Update: Here’s the updated tasks.py

Dirt Simple: At last, an XML enthusiast who actually understood my rants!
In XML.com: Should Python and XML Coexist?, Uche Ogbuji liberally quotes from and analyzes two of my XML-v.-Python rants, and actually gets it completely right. Since at least one of those rants has been cited as meaning I think XML is the spawn of Satan, I'm glad Uche read closely enough to get the context and nuance, without projecting things into it that I didn't say. Kudos!

Dirt Simple: Notes from the (Storm) Front
Well, we're about as prepared as we're going to get. Nothing to do but wait, and take advantage of the simple amenities like TV, air conditioning, and internet service while they last. I've been doing some OSAF work, and answering emails generally.> >It looks like the storm isn't slowing down, which means it'll get here sooner but be weaker.

Second p0st - Phillip Pearson: Coffee geekery
Thanks to the folks at Piranha on Riccarton Road for inviting me in and giving me a crash course in coffee evaluation. The new owners (since November) seem to really be into their coffee; Dave and Peter have apparently trained many of the top local baristas. I now have a bit more of an appreciation of what's required to make a good coffee - and what mistakes to look for when other people are making coffee for me.

Lesscode.org: Freedom vs. Safety
Kevin Barnes’ Freedom Languages is one of the best high level takes on the language divide I’ve read in a long time. He nails the major differences between the situation previously referred to as “dynamically vs. statically typed languages”.

Uche and Chimezie Ogbuji: Python/XML column #36: Should Python and XML Coexist?
"Python and XML: Should Python and XML Coexist?" In his latest Python and XML column, Uche Ogbuji claims that the costs of using XML as a little language in a Python application may outweigh the benefits of doing so. [Aug. 25, 2005] In this article I discuss some of the recent round of complaints about XML in the Python community, trying to give perspective that Python and XML should serve very different domains.

Allegra: Public RDF - Contextual Dissent about Any Articulation
In a public media like the Web, on a network of peers like the Internet, the same public name may be described differently by a resource depending on the context in which it is named. What the Semantic Web lacked since its inception is a system to resolve public resource descriptions, allowing contextual dissent.

Ned Batchelder: Log Parser
Jeff Atwood extolls the virtues of Microsoft Log Parser. It provides a SQL syntax for querying log files of diverse heritages. It sounds very cool, and damn handy. From a quick look through the source he provides, I didn't see how to plug in new input parsers, though the architecture diagram he shows has a block for them. With CSV and XML inputs available, I guess you could transform anything you like into something it could eat even without plugins.
