Ned Batchelder: I/O brush
I/O Brush is a freaky art/technology project from the MIT Media Lab. Point the big brush at a real world object, and it picks up the appearance of the object. Use the brush on its canvas, and it paints like the object looked. It even captures the movement of the source object.

Jkx@Home: Python on Rails: The bazzar
Everybody know Ruby on Rails right now. There is a lot of post all over the web, showing us the new latest new web programming style. This is a little funny because in a past life (4 years ago), I worked on something quite similar for Zope, name ZModeling.

Lesscode.org: YAPWF! Brand new! Or is it?
Rather than reinventing everything or trying to clone some other framework, TurboGears takes advantage of the great tools that are already available! The tools: MochiKit is a clean and powerful JavaScript library. Kid is a designer- and programmer-friendly template system… written by lesscode’s fearless leader. CherryPy SQLObject

Ned Batchelder: TurboGears
Kevin Dangoor announces the TurboGears web megaframework. He calls it a megaframework not because it is enormous, but because it is a collection of existing pieces which have been integrated, kitted, and documented together into a larger framework. The pieces are: (more..)

Blue Sky On Mars: Annoucing TestGears 0.2 unittest extension
Last month, I introuced Testido, a unittest extension that removes the need to write TestSuites by hand and simplifies some testing. To be in line with TurboGears, for which Testido was originally created, the package has been renamed TestGears. Here are the changes between Testido 0.1 and TestGears 0.2: unittest.TestCase instances are collected regardless of whether their names begin with “test”. (Thanks to Robert Brewer for the report.) Now calls setupmodule(module) and teardownmodule(module) as in py.test.

Lesscode.org: No SOAP Radio
A significant problem in the trenches for Web Services isn’t the ability to play nice or not with existing Internet protocols, or its complicated type system, or Object/XML impedence. It’s optionality. When you get down to it, too much in Web Services is optional.

Blue Sky On Mars: Announcing TurboGears web megaframework (Python)
TurboGears brings together four major pieces to create an easy to install, easy to use web megaframework. It covers everything from front end (MochiKit JavaScript for the browser, Kid for templates in Python) to the controllers (CherryPy) to the back end (SQLObject). The TurboGears project is focused on providing documentation and integration with these tools without losing touch with the communities that already exist around those tools. TurboGears is easy to use for a wide range of web applications. To get a quick idea of what TurboGears is like, take a look at the 20 Minute Wiki tutorial and screencast. The total screencast with brief intro and conclusion did take a little over 23 minutes, but it’s close to 20 minutes A big thanks to Remi Delon, Ian Bicking, Bob Ippolito, Ryan Tomayko, Phillip Eby and the many other contributors who have provided all of these great tools.

Ned Batchelder: TV in da house, part 2
We survived the TV crew from Weekend Today. Actually, it was pretty easy and a lot of fun. We had four people total (camera guy, sound guy, segment producer, publicist), but they were very nice and tried hard not to intrude too much. They were around for six or seven hours. (more..)

Got into a mental exhaustion state last night. Decided to go out to Starbucks with Shane instead of pushing at the code. As has become normal for him, he wanted to play poker.

Ian Bicking: Alternate Python Install Directory
«... But we're creating an alternate hierarchy for our systems, and I've started thinking this should include multi-version software installation (things installed through a packaging system will still go wherever the packager wants them to go).
